OPALCO’s Election is Open!

Check your mailbox for your member ballots and voting guide. Voting opened today (April 8th). Co-op members can vote one of three ways: online, by mail or in person at the Annual Meeting. Voting online is the preferred method; it is secure and it saves Co-op resources. A survey on this year’s ballot will ask for members’ voting preference; beginning next year paper ballots will not be sent to those who prefer to vote online.

Absentee balloting closes at 10 AM on May 1, 2015. If members choose to vote by absentee ballot, the ballot must be mailed in time to meet the deadline. Or, members can vote at the Annual Meeting on Saturday, May 2, 2015.

This 2015 election for the Board of Directors features four candidates running for two open positions in District 2 (Orcas, Armitage, Blakely, Obstruction, Big Double, Little Double and Fawn Islands). The 2015 candidates are: Winnie Adams (incumbent), Randy J. Cornelius, Ed Sutton and Chris Thomerson (incumbent). Candidate bios are sent by mail to each Co-op member with their ballot, and are available online. This year, there is one member-initiated bylaw amendment.

The 78th Annual Meeting of Orcas Power & Light Co-op is more than just a good lunch. Members and their families who attend the 78th Annual Meeting aboard a Washington State ferry join in camaraderie and fellowship with their island neighbor members and the OPALCO leadership.

This year’s Annual Meeting is Saturday, May 2, 2015 on the ferry. There are several important details to keep in mind as you make your plans to join us:

  • Members should arrive earlier than their boarding time to park and register for the meeting.
  • Members who are disabled or require special accommodations to participate in the meeting should call Bev Madan at 376-3549 to make arrangements.
  • Full travel details available here

Why does OPALCO hold an annual meeting? Co-op bylaws and the federal government agency USDA Rural Utilities Service require that our cooperative and its members hold an Annual Meeting. It’s a great opportunity for the wider OPALCO family of members to connect and meet the OPALCO leadership.
