Senator Maria Cantwell to Chair Energy Subcommittee

Wednesday, February 23rd, 2011

On February 18, the Energy and Natural Resources Committee announced that Sen. Maria Cantwell (D–Wash.) will again chair the Subcommittee on Energy, as she did in the 111th Congress. “America must lead the transition to a clean energy economy,” Cantwell said in a statement released by the Committee. “Clean energy is the largest market opportunity of the 21st century and one of the most promising avenues for creating jobs and fueling our economic recovery. Energy issues are at the heart of many of America’s most pressing economic, environmental, and national security challenges. As chair of the Energy Subcommittee, I look forward to working with my colleagues to move forward on America’s energy future and to capture the great economic opportunity before us.”

OPALCO Conservation Savings Add Up!

Wednesday, February 16th, 2011

For fiscal year 2010, OPALCO reported 1,181,291 kWh of implemented energy savings to BPA. This includes residential and commercial savings and equates to about $82,690 given an average rate of $.07/kWh (including residential and commercial rates). The average usage for OPALCO residential members is about 1000kWh/month so we could look at the above savings as taking approximately 100 homes off the grid last year. Good job co-op members!
